You can set your anti-virus program to ignore certain files. Anticheat must be in your quake2 folder.
Example: C:/program files/quake2/anticheat.dll

i just ran into this problem 2 days ago and i use avg {anti virus] and what was preventing me from connecting it was my resident shield so go into and allow anti cheat.dll so that your computer recognizes that it isnt a threat this might not fix the problem every time but this is what was preventing me from joining. so if that doesnt work it might be something with your fire wall. if your using windows 7, there is a windows firewall thats pretty hidden in the setting so your gonna have to dig to find the program then allow it, if none of that works my poor knowledge of computers is no help to you sorry :P
