Game Modes

Vortex supports a few different game modes. Below is a description of each:

PvP (Player vs. Player, ie: deathmatch)

This is the default game mode. Players fight and kill each other to gain experience. If you get more than 5 kills in a row, you glow green and ‘spree’, gaining bonus experience with each additional kill. If you get more than 24 kills in a row, you trigger a spree war. You glow white while everyone else glows red. The red players can’t hurt each other and will hunt you down since you are worth a large amount of experience points.

PvM (Player vs. Monster)

In this mode, players team-up to fight monsters on standard deathmatch maps. Monsters will continually spawn until the map ends.

CTF (Capture The Flag)

This mode will be familiar to most. There’s a blue team and red team. Players are distributed evenly among the teams by character level. The goal is to capture the enemy flag. You can also claim spawn points for your team which slows down the opposite team’s respawn rate. If you capture all the spawns, then the enemy can only respawn in their own base.

FFA (Free For All)

This mode is a combination of PvP and PvM modes. You kill other players for experience, but monsters continually spawn for the duration of the map. You get extra experience for your kills in this mode because it’s harder to stay alive.

Invasion

Like PvM, the humans must fight monsters. The difference here is that there is a monster base and a human base. Your goal is to prevent the monsters from invading your base and killing your spawn points. If you win, extra points are awarded based on the number of live player spawns remaining.
